Setting up an All-Inkl cronjob: through KAS and the alternative

All-Inkl ships its own cronjob management inside KAS which calls your script by address. It is not included in every plan, though. This guide covers both: the setup inside KAS and the route via an outside service.

Why at all

When KAS is enough and when it is not

If your plan includes cronjobs, KAS is the obvious route. You enter your script address there, set the time and can have the output mailed to you. For many applications that is entirely sufficient, and we say so plainly: use it in that case.

However, cronjobs are not part of every All-Inkl plan. They can be booked as an add-on or come with a plan change. Anyone who only needs a single call therefore faces a decision bigger than the task.

The second reason for an external call is traceability. A scheduler at your host generally does not tell you how long your script took, how large the response was, or whether that changed over the weeks. And if the server itself is unreachable, the scheduler goes down with it: it sits on the very machine that is not answering.

The third reason is independence. A cronjob that lives outside survives a move to another host and can trigger addresses on several servers at once.

Setup

Step by step

The AI does it faster

You do not have to transfer any of this by hand. Paste this guide – or the one for your own system – into the assistant, and Cronjob.de fills in address, method, schedule and headers. Where something is unclear it asks instead of guessing. At the end you see what was entered and create the job with one click.

Included in the free plan at no extra cost. You will find it after signing in under "Cronjobs" → "Create with AI".

  1. First check whether your plan includes cronjobs

Sign in to KAS and open Tools › Cronjobs. If you find the entry and can create something there, the rest of this guide is just background. If the entry is missing or points to an add-on, carry on below.

  2. Route A: create the cronjob inside KAS

In the form you enter your script address under protocol and path, plus a description and the execution time. If the directory is password protected, also provide the HTTP authentication credentials. The email field sends you your script output.

  3. Route B: check the address

Open the address that should be called regularly in a browser once. It has to be reachable without a login and answer with status 200. If your script should not be public, protect it with a secret parameter in the address.

  4. Create an account at Cronjob.de

Registration takes a minute and is free. Five cronjobs stay free forever, the first 14 days run on the Unlimited plan with call log and runtime statistics.

Start for free 14 days of Unlimited included, no payment details

  5. Create a cronjob with that address

Enter the address and set the schedule, either through the selection fields or as a crontab expression.

    */5 * * * *

You can enter this expression at Cronjob.de exactly as it is – the schedule field understands crontab notation. But you do not have to know it: simply click the schedule together instead.

  6. Switch on error notifications

Enter an email address under Notifications. You will then be notified when a call fails, including when your hosting is not answering at all. Failure notifications by email are included from the Plus plan, and free during the first 14 days.

What the five fields of an expression like */5 * * * * mean is explained in the crontab reference – with examples and the most common pitfalls. You can build the expression in the crontab generator. Whether you need an outside service at all is shown in the comparison of the three ways.

Verification

Is it actually running?

In the Cronjob.de call log you will see the first calls with status 200, the runtime and your script response within a few minutes. For the first test add a line to your script that writes date and time into a file. Then you can see on both sides that it arrived.

Your host runs cron jobs itself? Then monitor them with a heartbeat.

One line at the end of your script reports every run to Cronjob.de. If the check-in is missing, you get a message – even if the host's cron never started. One heartbeat is free. Cron job monitoring

FAQ

Common questions about All-Inkl (KAS)

Does All-Inkl have cronjobs at all?
Yes, in KAS under Tools > Cronjobs. They are not included in every plan though; they can be booked as an add-on or come with a plan change. The quickest way to tell whether your plan includes them is whether the entry in KAS is selectable.
Why use an external service if my plan has cronjobs?
If the KAS setup is enough for you, use it. One reason for the external route is the call log with runtime and your script response. The second is that a scheduler outside still reports when your hosting itself is not answering.
Does my script have to be publicly reachable?
It has to be callable from outside, yes. You can protect it with a long random parameter in the address and check that inside the script. If you need more, additionally restrict access to our server addresses, which are listed in our FAQ.
What about scripts that have no address?
A call from outside only works through an address. For tasks that must run on the command line, the cronjob inside KAS or your own server is the right way.
Does this work with other hosts too?
Yes, the approach is the same with every host: an address reachable from outside and a schedule. The host does not need to support anything for it.
Is your server rejecting our calls? Error 403 almost always comes from a firewall, a security plugin or directory protection – not from your script. All our calls carry the fixed identifier Cronjob.de in the user agent. Ask your host for an exception for it; that is more reliable than allowing IP addresses, because ours can change.
